Over the weekend, at San Diego Comic Con, lots of details were dropped about this years Christmas special. The special, entitled Twice Upon a time will see Peter Capaladi’s Twelfth Doctor team up with the First Doctor played by David Bradley. There is also the return of Bill Potts, played again by Pearl Mackie. Doctor Who writer and actor Mark Gatiss will also return to the show playing a character known as ‘The Captain’ at this point. It is with sorrow, that we have to report the passing of Deborah Watling. Watling first joined Doctor Who in 1967, playing the second Doctor’s companion Victoria Waterfield. She, along with Frazer Hines (Jamie) would battle along with the Doctor, Cybermen, Daleks, Ice Warriors and of course, the Yeti. She was born on the 2nd of January 1948. It is well known that the team of Troughton, Watling, and Hines got on extremely well with Watling often the butt of the boys jokes. It is with deep regret we have to report on the passing of Trevor Baxter. Baxter who had a wide career, appearing in such shows as Z Cars, The New Avengers and George and Mildred. To Doctor Who fans he is best known for playing Professor George Litefoot, pathologist and eventual comrade of impresario Henry Gordon Jago, from the Fourth Doctor story The Talons of Weng-Chiang. He returned to this role in 2009 in the Big Finish audio drama The Mahogany Murderers, which would end up serving as the pilot for 2010’s Jago & Litefoot series box set. After much fevered speculation, the BBC has finally revealed the identity of the person who will take over the TARDIS in 2018 alongside Chris Chibnall. The Thirteenth Doctor will be played by Jodie Whittaker, best known for her portrayal of Beth Latimer in Chibnall’s series Broadchurch. This will make Whittaker the first ‘canon’ female Doctor in the history of the programme. As per the end of The Doctor Falls we saw that the first Doctor (played by David Bradley) has returned to team up with the twelth Doctor in his final story before his regeneration. The BBC has released the following promotional image: This isn’t Bradley’s first time in Doctor Who, or indeed playing the first Doctor. He was previously in season seven’s Dinosaurs on a Spaceship and he also played the Doctor/William Hartnell in the Docudrama An Adventure in Space and Time The Christmas special is as yet untitled.
