Data Extract is the quarterly magazine of the Doctor Who Club of Australia.

DE214

We strongly encourage all of our members to submit their own work for publication.
Our regular features include:

  • Spoilers (Justin Ridley - news@doctorwhoaustralia.org):
If you know an interesting piece of news about Doctor Who, this is the place to send it.
  • Goods Gallery of Gallifrey (Tai Wong - ggg@doctorwhoaustralia.org):
Merchandise is being released all the time, and people want to know what it is, what it includes, and when it's coming out. If you know something that's coming out, send it here.
  • Forum Square (Richard Lipp - fsq@doctorwhoaustralia.org):
A place for people to submit reviews. They can be about anything Doctor Who-related - an episode, classic or new, a whole season, a book, a comic, a spin-off, a show that a Doctor Who actor has been in... we're really flexible.

  • Think Tank/Countdown (Mark Conroy - thinktank@doctorwhoaustralia.org):
This is our letters column. Send your thoughts in here - they can be about anything Doctor Who-related that's on your mind. Sometimes we ask readers to respond to a question, in which case your letters can be about that. In Countdown, readers pick their Top Ten (anything related to Doctor Who), and send their list in.

  • Ask Dalek Caan (Dalek Caan - dataextract@doctorwhoaustralia.org):
Like Think Tank, this is a letters column. Unlike Think Tank, it is run by a Dalek who likes to give advice. So if you're having trouble in life and you want help (or a good laugh), this is the place to go.

  • Caption Contest (dataextract@doctorwhoaustralia.org):
Every issue, we display an image from an episode of Doctor Who. Send in your best caption for that image, and you could be a winner. The best caption for each image will be selected, and in the end there will be an overall winner.

  • Member of the Month (dataextract@doctorwhoaustralia.org):
If you want to share your love of Doctor Who with the world, contact us here. Answer some set questions about your obsession, send in some photos proving this, and you will get a column that's all about you!

That's all for the regular written features, but we also have:

  • A Little Perspective
This is our Q & A session with four Doctor Who fans, where we ask for your thoughts on the series and events surrounding it and transcribe the results. If you want to be involved, you can let us know at a Sydney day event or at dataextract@doctorwhoaustralia.org. If you don't live in the Sydney area but would still like to be involved, you can host your own session. Just let us know what's happening, and we'll send you instructions and questions.

If there's anything else you think we'd be interested in, send it to Lauren Davis at dataextract@doctorwhoaustralia.org. This could include (but is not restricted to):

  • Opinion pieces about an aspect of Doctor Who - classic and/or new series, books, audios, merchandise, or anything else Doctor Who related.
  • An article about a Doctor Who event you attended - day events, Armageddon, Supanova, video nights, even a party you had!
  • Fan fiction. This can be a short vignette, or a longer adventure. However, because of the three-month gap in between issues, it should be spread over no more than two issues (approximately 7,000 words). If you already have something written that is longer than this, and it impresses us enough, we may make an exception.
  • An interview with someone involved in Doctor Who. You don't have to do the interview yourself, but if you know a friend of a friend, and they're willing to speak to us, please let us know so we can arrange something.

We hope you get the most out of this magazine as possible.
