I heard on the radio this arvo that scientists in the us have successfully lit a light bulb a few meters away without any cable or cord. I think Adam Spencer said it or Richard Glubber.
This leap to science fiction means that Dalek invasion is more possible than ever before.
Who thinks this is true/possible/worth talking about? |

If you google "wireless power transmission" you'll get some interesting links. The BBC news page for this announcement, a Wikipedia page all about wireless energy transmission, and material on Nikola Tesla.
It reminds me of discussions back in the 80's for orbiting solar power stations that could beam electrical energy back to earth using microwaves. Various microwaves transmitters were even built and tested and used to beam electrical power across a couple of kilometres.
As the BBC news article points out it could definitely make life easier for anyone with a batery powered device, you'd never have to re-chrage the battery again, provided you're in range of a power transmitter, otherwise, no device, which could be a problem. (There's a thought. An electric car that never runs out of power).
It's a nice idea, how practical it turns out to be is the question.
And as for Daleks. What does power them these days? |

| Tesla did say this and it is repeatable with a sufficiently high power charge and the correct light source. However it's only marginally so and he claimed he could light his entire lab with broadcast power, which has not been possible until now. |
