I loved the Stargate movie. I saw it at the movies and bought the DVD years later. The whole Erik Von Daniken's Ancient Astronauts thing always grabs me.
They turned the humanoid "Ra" into a parasite by the time SG1 came around didn't they? I suppose the basic idea of using human beings as a host was the same.
Still, I enjoy SG1 and oneday I'll buy several seasons and watch it from the beginning because I did not catch it on a regular basis.
I think the series may have gone on a bit too long though because the last time I saw SG1 the actors seemed "tired". When an actor has been in a role too long, perhaps they parody themselves? I dunno.
I've only seen maybe two episodes of Atlantis and it seems okay. Those white-haired vampire guys seemed okay but I kinda think the Stargate has been done-to-death. Not on my A-List like Galactica but I won't write Atlantis off after only seeing a couple of episodes. |

Each to their own. I prefer the mini series myself, although the quality went down after Richard Dean Anderson (Jack O'Neil) left. There seems to be more "magic" in the movie than actual the science (in my opinion), the mini series has a good mixture of drama and science. The fact that the writers have kept it interesting for, at least, eight of the ten years the show has been running says something.
The fact that Ra had to take on a parasitic form to enhabit his host just answers a question that was left open in the movie. this method of gaining longevity obviously impressed the other System Lords so it became widely used.
Later in the series the System Lord, Anubis, genetically modifies the Goa'uld physiology to create a race of warrior-slaves that are pure Goa'uld. These Kull warriors, as their called, are faster and stronger (seemingly in every possible way) than the Jaffa. In fact, they were intended to replace the Jaffa, as they couldn't be killed in the conventional manner. My point is, these warriors essentially take the same form that Ra once did. |

In the film there was a moment when we saw the true form of Ra moments before his destruction and that form appeared humanoid. Well, that at least was my impression.
Is the transformation from the Stargat film's humanoid parasite to the "slimy snaky" parasite of the TV series explained at any point in the series?
BTW: The Stargate theme reminds me of the Lawrence of Arabia theme most notably with the opening notes. Maybe my head's been in the... umm... sand... and this similarity is common knowledge or commonly discussed on Stargate forum. |

On Friday I finished off SG-1 by watching the remaining episodes of the series that I did not see before. If watching SG-1 on television is people's only option in watching them, then these episodes are worth the wait. Without revealing anything about the final episode, all I can say it is a very poignant end to the series.
For me the only thing left for me to look forward to on Stargate are the SG-1 movies, Atlantis seasons 3 and 4 and the upcoming Universe series. |

| Just so you know the SG-1 films will be direct to DVD and not as cinematic releases. |

It is with the cast as last seen in the series.
Sci Fi Saved My Life is a name of a documentary series that looks at how certain sci fi films had an impact on reality which is being shown on Discovery.
The episode coming up on Saturday April 21 at 9:30pm looks at Stargate. The episode will be repeated on Friday April 27 at 1:30pm and Saturday April 28 7:30am. |

This was pretty fun to watch and it included interviews with Michael Shanks, Amanda Tapping, Chrisopher Judge, Don S Davis, Rob Cooper, Brad Wright, Mario Kassar (Executive Producer of the 1994 feature film), Jo Mallozzi and Stargate Magazine's Sharon Gosling. Also interviewed were Doctor Who authors Kim Newman and Jonathan Clements.
The TARDIS, actually two of them, made a cameo. This was from a picture of one TARDIS coming out of one wormhole and another TARDIS coming into another wormhole. This was due to the narrator asking how wormhole travel was possible.
The narration and the presentation was very quirky and definitely got a lot of enjoyment out of it. |

Last night saw episodes 3.8 to 3.11 of Atlantis and I liked the last two of these episodes. It should be a enjoyable when 7 gets to show it.
Also yesterday I saw the first webisode of the science fiction web series Sanctuary. It is not Stargate related but it was created by Stargate contributor Damian Kindler and starring Amanda Tapping.
To know about the plot click here:

The first episode is available on YouTube:

On Sunday while watching HypaSpace, saw the Next Month ad for Sci Fi and it includes Stargate: True Science, Presumably a documentary about the science used on Stargate.
EDIT: Just found out from Madds at Buffy Down Under that season 10 of SG-1 will start on Thursday July 5 at 11pm. |

The two SG-1 DVD movies The Ark of Truth & Continuum which had been planned to be released later this year has been delayed until next year 2008 (maybe a bit spoilery about season 10 to be shown soon on 7):
http://www.gateworld.net/news/2007/06/iark_of_truthi_will_be_released_.shtml
The article also says that MGM hopes to do more, two movies per year, if Ark of Truth & Contiuum are successful. |

My viewing update:
I have recently seen Atlantis 3.12 to 3.18.
Of those episodes 3.17 is wonderfully done but with a tragic shocker and 3.18 is a very good chiller.
I saw the episodes with a group of people on the season 3 DVD release that someone brought alone. The season 3 DVD was only released this week.
I am hoping to see the last two episodes of season 3 without the need to get the said DVD release myself sometime very soon.
Just as Behind The Mythology of Stargate SG-1 will show hours from now on Sci Fi, found hours ago that Sci Fi is showing yet another Stargate documentary From Stargate to Atlantis: Sci Fi Lowdown (which I think I may have seen before) on Saturday October 6 12:30pm and repeated Sunday October 7 12:30am. |

Behind The Mythology of Stargate SG-1:
This was quite enjoyable as the program goes through the mythology that SG-1 used in its narratives.
Better than I expected it to be. |

Tonight's SG-1 episode on 7 is The Road Not Taken and I like to let people know that it has references to what happened in the Atlantis season 3 episode McKay and Mrs Miller.
Unfortunately this Atlantis episode as with the other season 3 episodes has not yet been shown by 7. I have no idea whether the reference to the Atlantis episode will remain intact or be cut out for the broadcast.
For people who have bought the Atlantis season 3 DVD release then the only thing I can suggest, if you haven't already, is to watch McKay and Mrs Miller before seeing The Road Not Taken that is if you haven't bought the SG-1 season 10 DVD release which is also available. |
