Found out in the December Optus Magazine that UKTV will be showing the Extras Christmas Special on Christmas night at 9:30pm and it features David Tennant. David Tennant appears as himself which means that Doctor Who references are unavoidable in that show.

David Tennant appears briefly here playing the Doctor as Andy Millman (Ricky Gervaise) got a part in Doctor Who playing a sluglike alien.

Andy Millman did not make for a convincing alien as his human face can be seen in his costume.

Peter Nolan is another person who was not impressed by this as he wrote in DWM's Facebook wall and published in issue 392 that the Extras episode fell through a time tunnel from 1985. He then wrote that it had rubbishy, unconvincing monsters and has-been celebrities getting roles (in Doctor Who) as the last gasp of their career.

I certainly do not appreciate Doctor Who being treated as something to do out of desperation and not enthusiasm.

Despite David Tennant's presence this scene from Extras is really a reflection of what Doctor Who once was and not what it is today.

Interestingly Peter Nolan's letter is in the same issue in which editor Tom Spilsbury wrote in his editorial complaining about the "cult" label being used to describe Doctor Who.

Absolutely mind-boggling why there are some people who still have old fashion negative views of Doctor Who despite being a current show (I mean I don't see these kind of remarks in modern day version of other TV legends, say Battlestar Galactica).

Another example is a remark I read somewhere else some months ago in which someone said that this year's season of Doctor Who ended recently and nobody talks about a show that ended 20 years ago. Quite a contradictory statement, how can Doctor Who be both a defunct and current show at the same time especially since this person did not make a distinction between classic and current Who in his remark.

BSG isn't picked on becasue it isn't interesting enough. What I mean is it's never in the old or new series had the scope of Dr Who. That's why Who is so easy to pick on. One week the casual viewer might get it, the next he/she may not.

I wouldn't worry about it too much TS.

Well, I was certainly expecting a bigger role from David Tennant here, as opposed to about 30 seconds as the Doctor. Nevertheless I found the Christmas Special very enjoyable.

I understand what you're saying, TS, about your annoyance with an appearance in DW being a last resort. It didn't worry me too much, but having it compared with the likes of Celebrity Big Brother was a bit of a worry.
