From today's Guardian:
'A new video restoration technique could see dozens of classic episodes of series such as Doctor Who and Dad's Army restored to their original colour for the first time in more than 30 years.'
A Mr. James Insell, who used to work in BBC Research at Kingswood Warren (bring on Jack Pizzey) has developed a process whereby a form of electronic interference called chromadots can be extracted from black and white filmprints and decoded.

This may mean that The Ambassadors of Death and The Mind of Evil may hit shelves faster than we could have expected, if the technology is fully developed. |

Ooh, I'd love those two stories to come out regardless of black and white or colour. Both are two exceptional sounding Pertwee stories that I've not seen, which makes me feel guilty, as a certified "not that many Pertwee stories were great, you know" type of fan. I need more great Pertwee. I mean, I just spend yesterday watching all of 'Inferno' again and came away even more impressed than last time. Must have more!
*calms down*
Anyway, this is good news. Bring 'em on! |

Ambassadors to me would have to go into the 'best Pertwee' category for me. Although Silurians is my sentimental favourite.
I CANNOT believe you haven't seen those aforementioned stories!!!! Get the out at the library or something!! |

The recolouring of Who episodes that only exist in black and white has previously been achieved by some jiggery-pokery involving colour NTSC version from the US being used to sych with. Planet of the Daleks was apparently only provided to the US market in an edited down omnibus/movie-length version, and very little or none of the material from episode 3 was included.
What was that about padding in 6-episode stories again? |
