| I picked up on the Torchwood reference because it appeared on the subtitles so I spotted it easy. |

Yeah well subtitles would help just a little bit...
I guess what I'm wondering about, is that with all the mention of Torchwood wether or not it will be the main focus in the end episode? Like Bad Wolf in the last series. Or maybe they are just leading us on... |

| I think it's so they can launch their spin-off Torchwood with more recognition for it. You could be right, it could lead up to a big "Bad Wolf" episode. |

That's what bugs me about Torchwood, the Bad Wolf statements were a genuine mystery... Torchwood we already know what it is, not just from reading ahead on the net (I'll keep this spoiler free) but simply from Queen Victoria's statement at the end of Tooth & Claw and the great big Earth based laser weapon from Christmas invasion.
Rather than building a mystery it's just an intergalactic game of where's wally. It's just not as interesting this time. |

But at least Torchwood sounds like an interesting organisation so far... Bad Wolf turned out to be a head-scratching revelation that Rose sent a message to herself over time and space to look into the TARDIS and not become a baby then save the Doctor and wipe out every Dalek. I think Torchwood is a more obvious, but more logical setup if it's at the end of the series.
But onto The Idiot's Lantern... I'm disappointed. I'm a huge fan of The League of Gentlemen and Mark Gatiss in particular, but this script was ironically too Doctor Who. There was nothing particularly interesting in the episode. And I'm sure it's probably already been mentioned, but what was the go with stealing faces? And why did they return? The brainwave activity thing doesn't really hold up to scrutiny.
I'm hoping next week's episodes will be a vast episode, and that if Mark Gatiss ever comes back to the series he imbues his old magic... |

| You know how the dad (can't remember his name) said "I AM TALKING!"? Well, I was watching Rose today. Can anyone tell me what the Doctor says to the nesting consciousness when it's getting a bit loud? |

*The original Quatermass Experiment like the Queen's Coronation which served as the background for The Idiot's Lantern, was originally shown in 1953. A coincidence perhaps. |
Just found out from the DWM season 2 companion that there was a Quatermass reference that did not make it to the finished episode: when the Doctor and Tommy headed for Alexandra Palace, the Doctor said he knew the way because he had watched Quatermass go out live. Alexandra Palace was where The Quatermass Experiment was broadcast from.
There was only one Quatermass reference that was shown in the finished episode that of the clenching hands of the faceless people which mirrored the possessed Victor Caroon character in The Quatermass Experiment.
Also earlier drafts had the Doctor arrived at the studio as stage hands were struggling with a photographic blow-up of Westminster Abbey. This echoed with the climax of the original Quatermass serial. |
