As reported at DoctorWhoNews.com, Julie Gardner has revealed transmission details for two of next year's specials.
Julie Gardner has revealed transmission details for two of next year's specials.

She says in an interview with the Daily Telegraph: "Aside from Series Five, which will have a full 13 episodes and transmit in 2010, we are making four one-hour specials. The first, which we've already filmed, will go out this Christmas. The next will go out the following Easter. The other specials have yet to be scheduled, although one will definitely be on at Christmas 2009."

The Daily Telegraph article states that Russell T Davies is writing two of the specials and co-writing the other two. It is not known at this time who the other co-writer is.

I have now been told that the latest issue of DWM has reported that there is now five instead of four specials between the 2008 and 2010 seasons.

The extra special will also be in 2009 along with the other three slated for that year.

As mentioned before two of the specials was written by Russell T Davies each with another writer. One is with Gareth Roberts and the other with Phil Ford.

Ford finally makes a contribution to the parent show after having written the Sarah Jane Adventures story Eye of the Gorgon & the Torchwood episode Something Borrowed as well as now being the head writer of SJA.

I wonder if the additional special was a response to all the criticism from various people about the 2009 year. They threw the extra special to add more 'meat' to the year.

Either way, I'm glad we're getting 5 instead of 4...

Found out from Xoanon at the Doctor Who Forum citing DWM as the source about the producers of the 2009 specials:
The first, third and fourth specials of 2009 is produced by former Production Manager Tracie Simpson.
The second is produced by Nikki Smith who is also doing producing duties for the Sarah Jane Adventures.

The name of the 2008 Christmas Special is revealed in the following Press Release about a competition to go behind the scenes of Doctor Who, Torchwood & The Sarah Jane Adventures:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice/pressreleases/stories/2008/09_september/23/who.shtml

The episode title might look spoilery and I for one am not going to jump to conclusion on what it might mean.

I'm not going to spoil what the title refers to, but I'll point out that, for anyone who desperately wants to know, the answer is - more or less - in an extract online from RTD's upcoming book, The Writer's Tale.
