There's been a teaser trailer for "The Simpsons" movie over on Apples Quicktime Movie Preview page since last year. (2005).
And the films not out until the middle of next year? July 2007?
Hardly worth getting excited about. The Simpsons is well past it's use by date and needs to be retired as a regular series. Even the Halloween specials are becoming dull and predictable ....
Still; I'm sure it will be a huge box office success. |

I think the problem is the young kids that didn't see the original ones while they were around and can't apprieciate them because so much of them were comments on current society. Add to that all the money that the Simpsons started to gain at their height and then used on publicity. Enough publicity will always bring in a reasonable profit in a country as large as America. Quite sad really. |

Not surprised.
With Channel 10 showing a minimum of one episode every day you can repeat the entire run in about a year.
(And the DVD boxed sets of the early years are selling cheap).
Speaking of which, how many episodes are there now? 390? |

Yeah well I'm 16.  cop that. lol. But anyway I was refering to the 5-10 yr olds of today that look at the 6 oclock ones and say "Theyre old I'm not watching that" They can't apprieciate the old ones because so much of them are now irrelevant. I dont suppose it's their fault but my point remains valid.
I've just remembered the 138th special. "Who knows how The Simpsons will change between now and the time that the show becomes unprofitable?"
I guess we do now. |

That's an issue? I don't see how there should be a point made of it. I take your point, that they dwell on a particular part of soceity now, but is it satirical, as it used to be, in doing so? What it tends to do, from what I can see, is take a point, treat it seriously, and fill the episode with random jokes to compensate. Correct me if I'm wrong - I tuned off The Simpsons at least a year ago now.
Anyway, I think some of the oldest ones had some great issues brought to the fore too - take Mr Burns running for governor in the three-eyed fish episode (I forget their names, sorry), or memorably Lisa doing the "speech on America".
Don't get me wrong, the series is still enjoyable, and better than a lot of other comedies. I just don't watch it anymore because I think it's running stale - and having to rely on an episode premise of "someone comes out of the closet" seems a bit lame to me.
Oh, and as for the movie... we'll see. I haven't seen the preview, and I can't be bothered yet lol. |

The "old ones"?; pardon me, the "early series" dealt with mostly family issues and relationships. And there's only so long you can do that before it's all beeen done. Which it has.
What the show has done a lot in recent years is not so much deal with "real issues" but simply do stories based on whatever "controversy" is in vogue at the moment in the USA; eg; gay marriage.
Whether "real" or one that's just hyped up by the media. (Like who cares if Tom married that girl from the OC).
It would be nice to see the show deal with some real issues of today.
How about: Bart gets called up for service in Iraq and gets both his legs blown off, and is then dumped back in Springfield with no support and told to "suck it up and get on with his life" (minus legs). Much as is happening with a lot of the wounded soldiers returning. |

Without legs it would probably be the only way he could get around....
PS. if you think calling a 10 year boy for military service was impossible, well the yanks have managed to recall to service, dead people, old age pensioners, dogs .... and the list goes on. |

I didn't realise people felt so differently about The Simpsons. How could you not love it?

I could go on forever. The point is, I can't see The Simpsons failing because of bad ratings. I think it will eventually retire, but not get axed. |
