Methinks TV critic Michael Idato wrote his articles for this week's Guide after a Doctor Who marathon.

1. From his article for Jekyll (written by Steven Moffat):

"Moffat is certainly one of Britain's most interesting comtemporary television writers, having created ... some of the darker scripts in Russell T. Davies's reinvigorated Doctor Who, including The Girl in the Fireplace, a mournful romance between the Doctor and the famous French courtesan Madame de Pompadour and Blink, a genuinely frightening horror story about living statues."

2 and 3: From his review for Star Trek: The Next Generation:

"The early episodes of this outstanding series seem strangely dated, perhaps in part because the decks of the Enterprise are carpeted and lit like a furniture showroom while the genre's newer, darker series (Battlestar Galactica, Torchwood) having dirtied up the decor. This is the first part of a double episode ... where the Borg (Cybermen, anyone?) makes their debut..."

4: The next day there is a review for Torchwood: Out of Time, in which he compares the plot idea to an early episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation.

5: From his review for Teen Wolf Too:

"This sequel follows Todd's arrival at Hamilton University and his discovery that turning into a werewolf (or, as the Doctor in Doctor Who calls it, a lupine wavelength haemovariform) runs in the family."

6: Finally, in his write-up for Jekyll (show of the week), after once again mentioning that Steven Moffat wrote for Doctor Who:

"There is a rich darkness in Moffat's work. His Doctor Who scripts are among the show's best and in Jekyll (as in the Doctor Who episode Blink) he demonstrates a gorgeous ease with layers of shade, a slowly thickening sense of dread and those white-knuckle moments of genuine horror."

It took me about 15 minutes to type all this out, so I hope you guys are reading.

Yeah, I've seen him talk about both DW and TW before. He seems to have great regard (mostly) for both. Hurrah!

I remember reading his review of 'Captain Jack Harkness', for instance. A very thorough and excited review.

Just saw a clip in Funniest Home Videos of 3 emus snapping at a guy's jumper while he was still wearing it. The jumper had a Dalek on it, and the voiceover was going "Exterminate! Exterminate! Exterminate!".

In the final of Goodnight Sweetheart, Yvonne saw Gary going through the time warp. She said he "materialised like Doctor Who's TARDIS".

This episode also had elements similar to the new series of Who. When Gary was trapped in the past, he wrote a message on his friend's wall so it could be found in the future, just like in Blink. And when Gary and Yvonne were trapped in their respective time zones, they were both looking at the wall that kept them apart, much like in Doomsday.

Okay, this isn't technically a reference, but close enough. On the doco about Walt Disney last night, it mentioned that one of his animators or someone was named Joe Grant.

Another of the animators had my dad's name!

Just saw the Eerie Indiana episode The Loyal Order of Corn in which a room was said to be bigger in the inside than on the outside.

Do not know if this was meant to be a reference to the TARDIS but I thought it was worth a mention.

As I found out some time ago Doctor Who got a reference in a CSI: NY episode. Well the episode which is appropriately called Time's Up is on tonight on 9 at 9:30pm.

I don't think this is an actual reference, but when I read it it made me think of Who. It's from an online article about Kylie Minogue, and how her battle with breast cancer isn't over:

Just seen The Cult of Survivors. This is a documentary on BBC4 in 2006 about Survivors created by Terry Nation and it included a brief Doctor Who reference. First with him being the creator of the Daleks which showed a picture of him with his famous creation before showing a clip from Genesis of the Daleks.

The fact that I heard some women discussing Doctor Who in a cafe today probably doesn't count as a reference either. They appeared to be moderately informed - one of them knew that Donna was coming back as the new companion, hoped that she wouldn't be as annoying as she had been in her first appearance, and said that she was only in it for a few episodes in any case.

Weird to hear adult women discussing Doctor Who for a bit, and then go on to talk about their kids and what to do with them in the school holidays...!

Last week on the TODAY show (can't remember which day), Steve Jacobs was covering a toy fair and started of his weather segment wearing a talking Dalek mask. He was loving it!!

Probably not a real reference, but I thought it was funny anyway. On Neighbours just now, Frazer exclaimed, as his mother and brother walked into the room, "Hello, family of mine!".

EDIT: About 5 minutes later, Rebecca referred to her son as "son of mine".

Although not exactly a Doctor Who reference but the Cheaper By The Dozen movies starred Steve Martin as Tom Baker and I thought it is worth mentioning that in the second movie the eldest son played by Tom Welling was wearing a team shirt that said "Baker #4".

EDIT: Just picked this up from Wikipedia:
"Steve Martin who is a self-confessed, huge Whovian, accepted the lead role as Tom Baker because it was as close as he could get to fulfilling the goal of so many Whovians and play The Doctor"

This probably isn't a reference as such, but I was just at the movies and saw the trailer for a film called The Happening (M. Night Shyamalan) and the first thing said was "I don't know if you guys have heard about this article in the New York Times, but apparently honey bees are just disappearing. Lets hear some theories about why this might be happening."

Coincidence? Probably.

I was watching Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire the other night, and something struck me when they were at the Quidditch World Cup and they ventured into the Weasley's tent. I had to exclaim as I watched: "It's bigger on the inside!"

Perhaps JK was inspired by Who?

And Lumic, actually. When he died in that film, I did sort of expect him to come back... "FROM THE GRAVE"!

Actually, on a more serious note, I wondered a few years back about JK's interest in Doctor Who. For reasons I can't even remember now, I thought that there was definite similarities between The Chamber of Secrets and 'Snakedance'. Haha, I was probably completely wrong. It's something about the snakes...
